Former ARCH ENEMY Singer ALISSA WHITE-GLUZ Launches New Band BLUE MEDUSA
Former Arch Enemy vocalist Alissa White-Gluz has unveiled her new musical venture: the band Blue Medusa, announced on International Women's Day, March 8, 2026.The announcement marks a bold new chapter for the Canadian metal powerhouse, who departed Arch Enemy in late 2025 after more than a decade fronting the melodic death metal giants. White-Gluz joined Arch Enemy in 2014, contributing to four studio albums including War Eternal (2014), Will To Power (2017), Deceivers (2022), and Blood Dynasty (2025). Her final performance with the band took place on November 15, 2025, in Düsseldorf, Germany.

In a statement shared via social media and her official channels, White-Gluz described Blue Medusa as "the next evolution of everything I’ve been building toward; a project where my full artistic vision can exist without limits."She elaborated: "After twenty years performing on the world's biggest stages, I'm entering a new creative chapter. The year of the snake is finally over — now it's time to shed the skin."The band features a powerful all-women lineup centered on heavy, aggressive metal with technical flair:
  • Alissa White-Gluz — vocals
  • Alyssa Day (Mindscar, Absentia) — guitar
  • Dani Sophia (ex-Till Lindemann) — guitar
Joining them for live performances:
  • Delaney Jaster (Stitched Up Heart) — drums
  • Alicia Vigil (Dragonforce, Vigil of War) — bass
White-Gluz highlighted the complementary styles of her guitarists, noting: "So far the music we are making together is exactly what I have always wanted. Super heavy, energetic, catchy and evocative at the same time."The project promises "blazing guitar solos, crushing riffs, brutal vocals, fast and aggressive drums, thoughtful melodies, and deeply introspective lyrics layered with meaning." Drawing on the myth of Medusa, White-Gluz reframed the symbol: "Medusa turned people to stone… I want to pave the road in sapphire," and emphasized empowerment: "Medusa was never the monster that myth claimed. She is a guardian, a curse turned into strength."

The announcement ties into White-Gluz's longstanding advocacy for women in heavy music. "I chose to share this news on International Women's Day because building stronger platforms for women in heavy music is something I care deeply about," she said. "I've been carving my own path in this genre for a long time, and I want to help pave the road for the next generation of women who love metal as much as I do."New music from Blue Medusa is "coming soon," with the band's first live appearances scheduled at the Louder Than Life and Aftershock festivals.

The launch follows White-Gluz's recent solo endeavors, including her debut solo single "The Room Where She Died" (released late 2025) and an upcoming full solo album via Napalm Records. Blue Medusa appears positioned as a distinct band project, allowing her full creative control, including co-engineering, producing, and handling visual elements like artwork and video direction.

Fans and industry figures have reacted positively to the news, with White-Gluz noting overwhelming support following her Arch Enemy exit: "The fans' and industry peers' responses honestly blew me away. There was so much love, encouragement, and genuine support, more than ever before, and it felt incredibly energizing."Blue Medusa represents White-Gluz's continued evolution from her roots in The Agonist through her Arch Enemy era and now into an independent, vision-driven future in metal. Stay tuned for updates on releases and live dates.

Legendary Guitarist Steve Morse Opens Up About Battling Arthritis: "Don't Give Up While You've Still Got a Breath"

Anaheim, California – March 7, 2026 – At the recent NAMM Show, iconic guitarist Steve Morse, best known for his work with Deep Purple and The Dixie Dregs, gave a candid interview to American Musical Supply, revealing the profound impact arthritis continues to have on his playing at age 71.

Morse, who first publicly discussed the severity of his condition in 2024—explaining that decades of intense practice ("about 10,000 notes a day") had worn away all cartilage in his right-hand wrist—described the daily challenges and his unwavering determination to keep performing."It's hard to keep playing," Morse told the outlet. "The arthritis thing is huge. I've tried every treatment I can find. In fact, I've got another trip a thousand miles away to try something else. So, yeah, I changed my technique, changed my picking pattern, changed everything that I can to make it through whatever the challenge is."

He acknowledged the frustration this might cause for younger musicians, but emphasized that he's carving his own path rather than blocking opportunities. "This must be so frustrating, if you are a young player... to hear an older guy who's taking up one of the gigs you could be having," he said. "But fear not, I'm not taking anybody's place because I'm doing my own thing."

Drawing inspiration from remarkable figures in music history, Morse recalled seeing a bass player from the band Hydra perform with an amputated arm as a young fan in Atlanta. He also cited the late blind guitarist Jeff Healey, who developed his own innovative techniques. "Humans adapt," Morse reflected. "I've learned a lot from watching things on the farm, watching the ants... The persistence of animals counts, and insects. They keep on and on and on and they find a way. But they never stop. I guess that's one of my big lessons, is don't give up while you've still got a breath."

In a prior interview last October, Morse detailed the constant adjustments required during live shows, including shifting picking angles and hand positions mid-set to manage varying pain levels in his joints. "During the show tonight, I'll be changing positions constantly," he explained. "You have to really, really, really want to play, to deal with the advance of arthritis."

Looking to the future, Morse expressed uncertainty about his long-term ability to tour rigorously. "I don't know what's going to happen. When I wake up, am I going to be able to move my hand or not? I don't know," he said. "So far, I have been able to [and] make every gig. I think my time of doing the performance grind is closing. That window is closing." However, he remains optimistic about composing, writing music, and possibly performing in less demanding formats with support from other musicians.

Morse's storied career spans decades, beginning in the mid-1970s with the jazz-rock fusion of The Dixie Dregs, which earned multiple Grammy nominations. He later formed the Steve Morse Band, joined Kansas, and became a member of Deep Purple in 1994—serving as their longest-tenured guitarist until his departure in 2022 to care for his wife, who passed away in 2024. Throughout, he contributed to projects like G3, Flying Colors, Living Loud, and Angelfire, showcasing his extraordinary versatility.

Despite the physical toll, Morse's interview underscores a resilient spirit and a deep love for the instrument that has defined his life.

Great White Scouting Studios for First New Music with Singer Brett Carlisle

Great White is officially ready to turn the page to a new creative chapter. Guitarist and founding member Mark Kendall has confirmed that the band is currently scouting recording studios to begin work on their first batch of new music featuring vocalist Brett Carlisle.

Carlisle, who joined the multi-platinum rock outfit in October 2022, is the band's first permanent studio vocalist since the departure of Terry Ilous and the brief tenures of Mitch Malloy and Andrew Freeman. While the band has been touring steadily with Carlisle for over a year, this move marks their first foray into the studio since 2017’s Full Circle.

A New Strategy for a New Era In an interview with the Thunder Underground podcast, Kendall revealed that the band is leaning toward a modern release strategy. Rather than laboring over a full-length album for months, Great White plans to record and release music one track at a time.

"We’re looking into studios right now," Kendall said. "We’re thinking about doing one song at a time... and just putting out a video of one song, because it’s going to be free. The days of selling millions of records are over."

Kendall emphasized that this approach keeps the process "fun" and allows the band to maintain a steady stream of content for fans while ensuring Carlisle is no longer seen as just a "replacement" singer. "To get him on new music, I think it’ll be fun for the fans and us," he added.

Returning to Their Roots Describing the musical direction of the new material, Kendall teased a sound that bridges the gap between the band’s raw 1984 self-titled debut and the polished, melodic hard rock of 1987’s Once Bitten.

Fans can expect a mix of high-energy rockers, mid-tempo tracks in the vein of Foreigner, and bluesy ballads. Kendall clarified that the new ballads are "real blues with killer hooks" rather than "sappy" tracks, designed to showcase the full range of Carlisle’s voice.

The "American Idol" Connection The news of the studio sessions comes on the heels of Carlisle’s successful audition for American Idol, which aired in February 2026. Performing Great White's "House of Broken Love" with Kendall and keyboardist Michael Lardie, Carlisle earned a "Golden Ticket" to Hollywood. Judges Lionel Richie and Carrie Underwood were highly impressed, with Richie calling the 28-year-old a potential "poster child" for rock on the show.

Despite the significant age gap between Carlisle and the veteran rockers—some of whom have been in the band for four decades—the chemistry appears seamless. Kendall dismissed any concerns about the age difference, noting that Carlisle is an "old soul" who fits right in.

"Nothing overwhelms the guy," Kendall said. "He sings perfect all the time, and he’s got really good song sense for a young man."

While no official release dates have been set due to the band’s busy touring schedule and the geographical distance between members, the message from the Great White camp is clear: new music is finally on the horizon.
