Did SickSense Just Become A Completely Different Band?

SickSense isn’t exactly interested in staying in its lane—and the new Funerals EP makes that painfully obvious.

Vicky Psarakis opens up about the band’s darker musical direction, the surprisingly personal story behind A Moment of Violence, and why chasing whatever happens to be commercially popular can be a fast track to sounding like everybody else.

Then the conversation gets downright nasty when AI music enters the picture. Suno, Spotify, musicians skipping the hard work, endless AI-generated albums and the question nobody seems to want to answer: what happens to music when the humans stop being necessary?

Add a new North American tour and a completely DIY approach to keeping the band alive, and this interview goes a hell of a lot deeper than simply talking about a new EP.

Does Asia Still Sound Like Asia? Harry Whitley Talks Indigo!

Walking into Asia as the new vocalist means stepping directly into the crosshairs of fans who know every note, every lyric and every inflection.

Harry Whitley doesn't shy away from that pressure. He talks about the John Wetton comparison, the challenge of performing the classic songs, and what changed when he finally got the chance to help create brand-new Asia music with Geoff Downes.

Then there's Indigo — the album that puts his own stamp on the band and forces the obvious question: can a new era of Asia actually satisfy fans who grew up with the classics?

Harry also gets into working with some seriously intimidating musicians, the band's chemistry behind the scenes, touring plans, fan reaction and why buying the music still matters in the streaming era.

There's a lot more going on here than just another new album interview.

Samhain's London May: Can A Heavy Metal Musician Actually Survive A Real Film Set?

Most musicians who try to act look like complete fools the second the camera starts rolling. They think hitting a stage translates to movie stardom, but the reality is usually a cringey train wreck. London May went from beating the hell out of the drums in Samhain to taking on intense, dark movie roles. Chris Akin digs into what actually goes down on a film set, the brutal reality of pretending to be a psychopath vs. method acting, and why stepping out from behind a drum kit into the cinematic spotlight breaks most rockstar egos.

NIGHTWISH SPLITS WITH FLOOR JANSEN AFTER 14 YEARS — CAN THE BAND SURVIVE ANOTHER SINGER CHANGE?

October 15, 2026

One of the biggest voices in symphonic metal is officially moving on, and NIGHTWISH fans are once again facing a question that has followed the band for decades: How many times can you replace the singer before the identity of the band changes forever?

NIGHTWISH has announced that it has parted ways with longtime vocalist Floor Jansen, ending a musical partnership that began in 2012 and produced three studio albums. The separation comes as the Finnish metal veterans celebrate their 30th anniversary, making the timing particularly surprising.

According to the band's announcement, the decision was mutual, with both parties determining that their individual musical ambitions would be better served by moving in different directions.

But while the official announcement presents an amicable separation, it leaves one enormous question unanswered: Why now?

ANOTHER CHAPTER CLOSES FOR NIGHTWISH

When Floor Jansen first stepped onto the stage with NIGHTWISH in October 2012, she was entering a situation that could have overwhelmed almost any vocalist.

Original singer Tarja Turunen had departed in 2005, and her replacement, Anette Olzon, had just exited the band. NIGHTWISH was once again facing uncertainty surrounding one of its most recognizable musical elements.

Jansen, already respected for her work with AFTER FOREVER and REVAMP, proved capable of handling the band's demanding catalog. Her combination of power, range, and commanding stage presence helped establish a new era for NIGHTWISH.

She officially joined the group in 2013 and went on to record three studio albums:

  • Endless Forms Most Beautiful (2015)

  • Human. :II: Nature. (2020)

  • Yesterwynde (2024)

For more than a decade, Jansen became the voice associated with NIGHTWISH for an entire generation of fans.

Now that era is over.

THE BAND ISN'T STOPPING

Despite losing its third lead vocalist, NIGHTWISH has made one thing clear: The band intends to continue.

The group confirmed plans to enter the recording studio in 2027 to begin work on another album, signaling that the departure will not bring its 30-year history to an end.

However, NIGHTWISH has not announced a replacement singer or revealed who will handle vocal duties on the upcoming recording.

That creates an intriguing situation for a band whose history has already been defined by major changes behind the microphone.

With each previous transition, NIGHTWISH faced intense comparisons between vocalists, competing fan loyalties, and debates about which version of the group represented its definitive sound.

Now the process appears ready to begin all over again.

And this time, the departing singer spent nearly 14 years helping define the band's modern identity.

FLOOR JANSEN IS MOVING FORWARD

For Jansen, the departure comes as her solo career is gaining momentum.

The singer has confirmed that she will now devote her full attention to her own music, including her second solo album, Hytress, scheduled for January 15, 2027, and an accompanying tour.

Her first solo album, Paragon, arrived in 2023 and demonstrated that she could establish a musical identity outside NIGHTWISH.

In addressing the separation, Jansen acknowledged that the decision was difficult but expressed optimism about the next phase of her career.

Rather than stepping away from music, she appears ready to make her solo work her primary creative focus.

For fans who have followed her since the AFTER FOREVER days, the opportunity to hear Jansen pursue her own artistic direction without the expectations attached to NIGHTWISH could prove especially interesting.

CAN NIGHTWISH REPLACE ANOTHER DEFINING VOICE?

The larger question concerns NIGHTWISH itself.

There is no denying that keyboardist and songwriter Tuomas Holopainen has remained the central creative force behind the band's music. His compositions, arrangements, and artistic vision have provided continuity through decades of lineup changes.

But singers are different.

For many listeners, the vocalist is the most immediately recognizable part of a band's sound.

Tarja Turunen brought an operatic identity that helped establish NIGHTWISH internationally. Anette Olzon introduced a different vocal approach, and Floor Jansen brought another distinctive combination of theatrical delivery and metal power.

Each singer represented a different chapter.

Each developed a loyal following.

And each departure forced fans to reconsider what NIGHTWISH was supposed to sound like.

The band has already demonstrated that it can survive significant personnel changes. Whether it can successfully reinvent itself for a fourth vocal era remains an open question.

THE TIMING MAKES THIS EVEN MORE INTERESTING

NIGHTWISH has been away from live performances since 2023, having previously announced an indefinite break from touring.

The band released Yesterwynde in 2024 without undertaking a supporting concert tour.

Now, with its 30th anniversary underway and another studio album planned, the group finds itself preparing for its next chapter without the singer who helped define its last three records.

Neither side has publicly disclosed a detailed explanation of the circumstances behind the split beyond describing it as a mutual decision.

There is no confirmed replacement, no announced return to touring, and no indication of what musical direction the next NIGHTWISH album will take.

For now, fans are left with more questions than answers.

THE BIG QUESTION: IS NIGHTWISH STILL NIGHTWISH WITHOUT FLOOR JANSEN?

There is a larger debate here that goes well beyond one band.

At what point does a group become more of a musical institution than a collection of recognizable musicians?

NIGHTWISH has maintained its name and creative foundation through multiple major lineup changes. Yet each singer has left a distinct mark on the music and on the fans who discovered the band during that particular era.

Some listeners will undoubtedly welcome the possibility of another reinvention.

Others may see Jansen's departure as the end of the version of NIGHTWISH they connected with most strongly.

And still others may be more interested in what Floor Jansen can accomplish now that she is concentrating entirely on her solo career.

One thing is certain: 2027 is shaping up to be a defining year for both NIGHTWISH and Floor Jansen.

The band is preparing another album. Jansen is preparing her own release and tour. Both are moving forward, but separately.

After nearly 14 years together, one of symphonic metal's most recognizable partnerships has reached its conclusion.

Now it's your turn: Was Floor Jansen the best singer NIGHTWISH ever had? Can the band successfully replace her, or should it finally consider calling it a career?

Yngwie Said No to Diamond Dave. Thank God. (Maybe.)

Malmsteen admits he "probably should have" joined David Lee Roth's band in 1985. We ran the what-if.

Sources: Blabbermouth, quoting Yngwie's new interview with Eamon O'Neill of Eonmusic; also reported by BraveWords.

Picture it. 1986. David Lee Roth, freshly out of Van Halen, drops his first full solo album. You put on the record and the guy shredding next to Dave isn't Steve Vai. It's Yngwie J. Malmsteen, in the frilly shirt, with the scalloped Strat and a Paganini chip on his shoulder.

HAIL & REKINDLE: The Week In CMS Roundup October 4 – October 10
Another week in the CMS meat grinder and the body count is high: classic metal fighting for a future that ain't nostalgia cosplay, concert tickets that could buy you a used Camaro, Quiet Riot handing the mic to a 23-year-old, Twisted Sister still screaming at the Rock Hall, Sebastian Bach melting down over AI for the VIPs, Big Dad Ritch still swinging after 25 years, Galactic Cowboys getting heavier instead of softer, and Seth and Chris turning a pharmacy runaround into open-mic warfare. Hail and Kill. Here's what actually hit this week.

THE CLASSIC METAL SHOW

CMS 9/26/26 LIVE: Is Classic Metal a Nostalgia Franchise or Does It Have a Future? Quiet Riot just hired a 23-year-old singer. Judas Priest is giving Sad Wings Of Destiny another 50th-anniversary treatment. And Jay Jay French is still asking why Twisted Sister can't get the Rock Hall's respect. Maybe the future of classic metal isn't what we think it is.

Did This 80s Rock Tour Just Prove Classic Metal Isn't Dead? Neeley and Chris tear through a chaotic week of live shows, wild backstage encounters, and time punching you in the face. Road stories with Dokken, Lita Ford, and Lynch Mob, run-ins with faces from two decades ago, binge-worthy TV, classic mob movies, and an unfiltered rant about people completely losing their minds over AI.

Are Classic Rock Fans Getting RIPPED OFF? Concert Prices Have Gone Completely Insane!
Metal isn't dead — but holy shit, the price of being a classic rock fan might be. The guys rip into VIP packages so stupid expensive you could damn near buy a decent used car instead, then pile on a chaotic tribute to a legendary frontman, 95-year-old sci-fi icons butchering metal classics, and watching your childhood heroes get older in real time.

Is John Torra Just The LATEST Singer To Inherit Quiet Riot's Impossible Job? Quiet Riot has a new voice — but is John Torra walking into one of the toughest jobs in rock? Legacy acts keep stretching band names long after the originals are gone, tribute-style replacements try to bottle lightning twice, and modern labels still can't launch young rock artists while yesterday's names get recycled forever.

Does Twisted Sister REALLY Deserve The Rock Hall? JJ French Wants Answers!
JJ French is back on the Rock Hall warpath, calling them out for keeping Twisted Sister outside looking in. Before anybody starts demanding an induction, maybe look at the damn numbers: was Twisted Sister a genuine force, or did Stay Hungry, We're Not Gonna Take It, and I Wanna Rock build a legacy bigger than the rest of the catalog?

THE CUT

THE CUT: Has Sebastian Bach Completely Lost His Mind Over AI? Sebastian Bach is throwing another massive temper tantrum onstage, this time declaring war on artificial intelligence. But is he actually standing up for real musicians, or is this just another washed-up frontman screaming at clouds because the world moved on without him? Meanwhile, Howard Stern has cut his broadcast schedule down to a point where he might as well be retired, leaving his remaining fans wondering why they're still paying a monthly subscription. Plus, a massive conservative festival implodes after no one buys the ridiculous VIP tickets, and Kid Rock decides it's time to drop a Christian album. THE CUT is only for paid CMS VIPs at
classicmetalshow.locals.com — you don't get this one on public Rumble.

Big Dad Ritch Talks THC, New Albums, More Big Dad Ritch on 25 years of Red Dirt Metal, dual albums Stoned Cowboys and Band of Outlaws on Big Dad Records, outlaw-country influence, heavier THC, lineup, touring, songwriting, and surviving outside the industry machine.

Galactic Cowboys return with What Planet Are You From? (out 2026-10-09). Kickstarter, drummer departure, loss of Johnny after he recorded tracks, heavier/thrashier direction and double-bass drumming, songs Super Spreader/Blinders/Train Wreck/Love Rehab/Find Our Way Home, Houston release show, touring without label support.

THE SETH WILLIAMS SHOW

Seth Show LIVE! 10/7/26: Why Is Getting A Prescription Refill Such A Nightmare? Seth and Chris Akin dig into the ridiculous bureaucratic nightmare of Chris trying to get a replacement prescription, then pile on Quiet Riot's new singer John Torra and the scrutiny he'll take for being overweight, why calling people "fat" is still fair game while every other insult gets memory-holed, and Cleveland sports misery as the Guardians stare at elimination again — is smart management enough, or has Cleveland hit the ceiling without opening the checkbook?
