Tesla just dropped a bomb: they're unleashing a full R&B and soul covers album called Homage in July. Yeah, you heard that right. The same dudes who gave us Modern Day Cowboy and Love Song are now having Jeff Keith belt out Sam Cooke, Etta James, James Brown, and some obscure Temptations cuts.
Frank Hannon called it "a very interesting record" with some really cool songs... plus one brand new Tesla original titled "Never Alone". Brian Wheat's been producing the hell out of it, and they've already been testing the waters live with Supertramp's "Give a Little Bit" and that Climax Blues Band jam "I Love You" that's racking up millions of streams.

Look, Jeff Keith's always had serious soul in that voice—nobody's denying the man can still sing his ass off. But Tesla going full R&B homage? That's bold as hell. Some of you are gonna eat it up because it shows off what Jeff can really do beyond the hard rock roar. Others are already screaming "sellout" or "what the fuck happened to the electric guitars?"
Me? I'm intrigued but skeptical. Tesla's always been that blue-collar, no-frills hard rock band with heart. Swinging into soul classics could either be a killer showcase that proves they're still relevant... or it could land like a total train wreck if it feels forced. Either way, it's not the straight-ahead rock record a lot of the diehards have been begging for after Shock and that All About Love EP.

They're hitting the road this summer with Mötley Crüe and Extreme on the Carnival of Sins tour, so expect to hear some of this new stuff live. Will the crowd eat up Jeff crooning soul tunes between the bangers? We'll see.
This is either a smart left turn or the weirdest curveball in Tesla's career. I'm grabbing it day one just to hear how they twist these classics. You should too—then tell me if it's genius or garbage.
