Legendary Hard Rockers TESLA Share Cover of Queen's "Spread Your Wings" + Official Video

Today, the acclaimed American hard rock band TESLA is proud to share a new cover of Queen's 1977 classic, "Spread Your Wings," taken from their upcoming album, 'Homage,' set for release on July 17, 2026, via Frontiers Music Srl. Marking a full-circle moment in their storied career, the album finds the band returning to their roots with a collection of covers honoring some of rock’s most timeless hits.

Bassist, keyboardist, pianist, and backing vocalist Brian Wheat shares:

DON'T MISS THIS VINYL OF TESLA'S HOMAGE HERE: https://amzn.to/4dPVhNt

"'Spread Your Wings' for me was the song I always wanted to record by Queen. I always felt it was the one song they had in their catalog that should’ve been a massive hit, but wasn’t because it was overshadowed by 'We Are the Champions' and 'We Will Rock You' on the 'News of the World' album. It was also a song written by John Deacon, who was the band's secret weapon and whom not many people talk about, the quiet one, shall we say."

It is remarkable to reflect on the more than 40 years since TESLA began as a cover band performing in California nightclubs before going on to write and record original material and sell millions of albums.

Much like their musical heroes — The Beatles and The Rolling Stones—artists who honed their craft by performing songs from those who came before them, TESLA followed a similar path in their early years and continues to embrace the tradition of paying tribute through cover songs today.

‘Homage,’ the band’s upcoming album, not only honors legendary artists but also provides an opportunity to showcase lead singer Jeff Keith's vocal diversity. The album stands as a thank-you expressed through music, an offering to the iconic voices and songs that shaped the band’s influences and, ultimately, their own songwriting.

'Homage' is not about imitation, but acknowledgment, tracing the line from influence to identity, from listening to becoming. The project also arrives more than 20 years after the ‘Real to Reel’ series, a release that helped inspire the creation of a new original TESLA song, “Never Alone.”

The selected songs on 'Homage' were chosen for a variety of reasons, primarily representing some of the greatest vocalists of all time, including Elvis Presley, Freddie Mercury, Sam Cooke, David Ruffin, Etta James, and James Brown. Additional selections reflect songs the band grew up hearing on the radio and on their turntables.

On the upcoming album, TESLA shares:

"Our new album 'Homage' is a thank-you note written in sound. An offering to the great singers and songs that shaped the music we grew up listening to, and the songs we would eventually write. We hope you all enjoy this as much as we did making it. Thank you for all the years - Keep it Real and Keep On Rockin'!"

Homage’ Track List:

1. Never Alone (Original Song)

2. Bring It On Home (Sam Cooke Cover)

3. Spread Your Wings (Queen Cover)

4. I Wish It Would Rain (The Temptations Cover)

5. Night Moves (Bob Seger Cover)

Smashing Pumpkins Launch Massive “The Rats In A Cage” Tour — And The Fan Divide Is Getting Bigger

placeholder

The Smashing Pumpkins are heading back out on the road with their newly announced “The Rats In A Cage” tour, and here’s the reality: this band still knows how to trigger strong reactions better than almost anybody from the alternative rock explosion of the ‘90s.

Some fans are celebrating this like a major event. Others are already rolling their eyes and calling it another nostalgia cycle. And honestly, both reactions tell you exactly why the Smashing Pumpkins remain one of the most polarizing legacy acts in rock.

Need something legendary while revisiting the classics? Rush - 50 BOX SET - https://amzn.to/44XV0DS

Billy Corgan has never been interested in becoming a safe, crowd-pleasing nostalgia machine. That’s part of what made the Pumpkins massive in the first place. The band built its reputation on emotional chaos, unpredictability, giant ambition, and a willingness to alienate people if necessary.

That attitude hasn’t changed.

The “Rats In A Cage” tour immediately feels like classic Corgan branding — dramatic, cryptic, theatrical, and just pretentious enough to make people argue about it online for weeks. And whether people admit it or not, that controversy has always fueled the Smashing Pumpkins machine.

Because unlike a lot of bands from that era quietly recycling greatest hits tours, Corgan still treats the band like an ongoing artistic statement instead of a museum exhibit.

The problem is that a huge percentage of fans don’t actually want evolution from this band anymore.

They want 1993.

They want Siamese Dream.

They want the emotional wreckage, the fuzz-drenched guitars, the sadness, the rage, the feeling that everything could collapse at any second while somehow sounding perfect.

And every modern Pumpkins release or tour gets judged against that impossible standard.

That’s why every announcement turns into a civil war between longtime fans.

One side believes Billy Corgan is one of the last remaining true rock visionaries — stubborn enough to keep experimenting no matter how much backlash comes his way.

The other side thinks the band lost its soul years ago and now survives almost entirely on the emotional memory of what it used to be.

Here’s the interesting part: both sides probably believe they’re protecting the “real” Smashing Pumpkins.

placeholder

That tension is exactly why this band still matters.

Because people don’t passionately fight over irrelevant bands.

What’s also becoming impossible to ignore is how modern legacy touring has changed fan psychology completely. Fans aren’t just buying concert tickets anymore. They’re buying emotional time travel. They’re chasing a feeling connected to who they were when these songs first hit them.

That creates impossible expectations.

No modern performance can truly recreate the danger or emotional impact fans felt hearing those records for the first time decades ago. But fans keep chasing that lightning anyway.

And to Billy Corgan’s credit, he’s never fully surrendered to simply becoming a nostalgia jukebox.

That stubbornness has cost the band plenty of goodwill over the years, but it’s also why the Pumpkins still generate real conversation while many of their peers quietly fade into legacy-tour background noise.

Love him or hate him, Corgan still pushes buttons.

And honestly, rock music desperately needs more artists willing to do that.

placeholder

The bigger question now is whether “The Rats In A Cage” tour becomes a true reminder of the band’s lasting power — or another flashpoint in the endless argument over what the Smashing Pumpkins actually are in 2026.

Either way, fans are going to show up ready to debate it.

Chris Holmes Absolutely Buries Any W.A.S.P. Reunion Talk: “I’d Be An Idiot To Go Back”

placeholder

For years, metal fans kept clinging to the fantasy that classic-era W.A.S.P. would somehow reunite and ride off into the sunset together. Here’s the reality: that fantasy is dead, buried, and Chris Holmes just threw dirt on the coffin himself.

Need something loud while the drama explodes? Ozzy Osbourne - MEMOIRS OF A MADMAN - https://amzn.to/4lXWhAI

In a new interview, Holmes didn’t just reject the idea of returning to W.A.S.P. — he practically scorched the earth around it. And honestly, this wasn’t some vague “never say never” rock-star answer either. This was personal, bitter, and brutally direct.

When asked if he’d ever rejoin the band if Blackie Lawless called him, Holmes immediately shut it down:

“I’d be an idiot to go back.”

That’s not frustration talking anymore. That’s decades of resentment still boiling underneath the surface.

Holmes went even further, accusing Lawless of misleading him over publishing money during the band’s peak years. According to Holmes, he was told not to worry about low touring pay because publishing revenue would supposedly make up for it — while, he claims, deals were already structured against him behind the scenes.

placeholder

And this is exactly why the W.A.S.P. reunion conversation refuses to die: because fans know the chemistry between Holmes and Lawless helped define the band’s most dangerous era. The early W.A.S.P. records weren’t polished corporate metal products. They were reckless, filthy, nasty, and unpredictable. That edge mattered.

But Holmes clearly believes that version of the band disappeared a long time ago.

One of the most brutal shots in the interview came when he blasted the modern live setup, claiming W.A.S.P. became “a depression to play with live” because of sampling and backing elements. In other words, Holmes basically questioned the authenticity of the current band experience entirely.

That’s the kind of statement guaranteed to split fans right down the middle.

Because let’s be honest — there are two completely different camps in the W.A.S.P. fanbase now:

  1. Fans who believe Blackie IS W.A.S.P., no matter who’s beside him.
  2. Fans who think the classic chemistry died years ago and can never be recreated.

And Holmes just poured gasoline directly onto that argument.

placeholder

What makes this even more intense is that Holmes doesn’t sound interested in reconciliation at all. No nostalgia. No “maybe someday.” No softening with age. If anything, he sounds more convinced than ever that walking away was the best thing he ever did.

That’s rare in rock history.

Most musicians eventually cash the nostalgia check. Most eventually circle back for “one last run.” Holmes sounds like a guy who genuinely doesn’t care about the money, the demand, or the fan pressure anymore.

And whether fans agree with him or not, there’s something undeniably raw about that.

Midway through this whole saga, one thing is becoming impossible to ignore: classic metal fans are getting exhausted with legacy bands operating more like brands than dangerous bands. Holmes tapping into the “it’s not really live anymore” argument is going to hit hard with old-school fans who already feel disconnected from modern touring production.

That comment alone may end up causing more backlash than the reunion rejection itself.

Here’s the bigger issue nobody wants to say out loud: every interview like this chips away even harder at the mythology surrounding legendary bands. Once fans start hearing about publishing fights, pay disputes, resentment, and personal bitterness, the illusion changes forever.

But maybe that’s also why people can’t stop clicking these stories.

placeholder

Because this isn’t manufactured controversy. This is decades of unresolved history exploding in public.

And now the question becomes: does this finally end reunion speculation for good… or does it somehow make fans want it even more?

One thing is crystal clear: Chris Holmes isn’t interested in pretending everything’s fine just to make fans happy.

Why the Music Industry is a Fraudulent Pay-to-Play Hellscape | Snew 2012

Let’s be real: the "modern rock" industry is a sanitized, corporate circle-jerk where talent goes to die unless you’ve got a massive pile of cash to buy your way onto a tour. Curtis Don Vito from SNEW joined us, and what started as a standard interview quickly turned into a cold, hard look at the financial rot killing real rock n' roll.

Snew's WHAT'S IT TO YA is seemingly out of print, but Amazon has a copy here: https://amzn.to/4n8x2gJ

SNEW is the quintessential "shit-kicker" band. They recorded with the legendary Ken Scott—the man who worked on The Beatles' White Album and Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust. They’ve got the substance, the pedigree, and the balls. Yet, even with that resume, Curtis lays out the grim reality of "Buy-On" culture. You want to open for a legend? It’ll cost you $55,000 per show. It’s not about the music; it’s about who can afford the ransom.

We also dive into the "Spotify Debate" and the absolute joke of digital royalties. When your record is on torrent sites for free on day one, and Spotify pays you a tenth of a cent while the labels gobble up the rest, how is a real band supposed to survive? This is the conversation the mainstream "fan-boy" press is too terrified to have because they’re all on the take.

"The version you’re seeing here is the 'sanitized' edit. To hear the full, unfiltered, and legally dangerous deep dive—including the stuff that gets us banned elsewhere—join the Inner Circle at https://classicmetalshow.locals.com. Become a VIP and get the substance the mainstream won't touch."
