Here’s the reality: most reunion records exist because the calendar said so. Little Angels are claiming the opposite. The band says new music “was never in the plan.” Then the Big Bad & Back tour tickets started flying, rehearsals in Scarborough turned into jams, and suddenly Toby Jepson had songs. That’s either chemistry or a very convenient conversion.
They were not some forgotten club act dusting off a logo. This was Britain’s last true hair-metal champion class — 11 U.K. Top 40 singles, four hit albums, and Jam sitting at No. 1 in 1993 while they shared bills with Van Halen, Guns N’ Roses, Faith No More, ZZ Top, Aerosmith and Bon Jovi. Then they split in 1994. Grunge was eating the room. They didn’t wait to get embarrassing. They left.
That choice still splits rooms.
Some of you call it integrity. Some of you call it quitting. Both of you have been waiting three decades to be proven right.
The lineup that matters is back: Toby Jepson, guitarist Bruce Dickinson — their Bruce Dickinson, not the other one — Jim Dickinson, Mark Plunkett and Mark Richardson. That’s the Jam-era band. Not a hired-gun tribute with the original singer stapled on. The same five who made the records you actually bought.
They already had one “final” chapter. Funeral in 2008. Download 2012. Isle of Wight 2013. Bow. Exit. That was supposed to be it. Thirteen more years go by, and now they’re Big, Bad & Back for a sold-out U.K. and Ireland run with Thunder’s Luke Morley opening. Manchester, Leeds, Nottingham, Wolverhampton, Shepherd’s Bush — gone. Demand did the talking before a single new note existed.
Then the EP showed up.
Big Bad & Back lands November 6. Five tracks: All For One, Hero (That Was Then, This Is Now), Small Town Boys, You Want Love, Raised To The Ground. First new Little Angels music since 1994. The lead single is already out, and the title is doing a lot of work. That Was Then, This Is Now is either honest or a warning label.
Jepson isn’t pretending they’re 22.
“Lyrically, the challenge was always going to be, how do you take what Little Angels represented back then and bring it into the modern world with guys that are now in their mid-50s?” he said. “This wasn’t about youth anymore — of course not; it’s about reflecting on where we had come from, and the kind of people we are now… this is about returning home.”
That’s the line that will divide this audience.
If you wanted Young Gods with extra wrinkles, you’re going to hate that quote. If you wanted grown men who still know how to write a chorus, that’s the only quote that matters.
They tracked it the old way — in a room, live, Chapel Studios in Lincolnshire after hometown rehearsals — then shipped the tapes to Vancouver for Mike Fraser. That’s not a random name. Fraser mixed Aerosmith’s Permanent Vacation and Pump. Little Angels mixed Jam at Little Mountain, the same city, the same era, the same muscle-car sheen. Little Mountain is gone. Fraser isn’t. They told him to chase that spirit on purpose.
So no — this is not some laptop reunion slapped together between radio shifts.
But let’s not get cute. An EP is not an album. Five songs after 32 years is a test balloon, not a manifesto. They said they would never make a new record unless they still had something to say. Fine. Then say it for more than twenty minutes, or admit the tour was the product and the EP is the merch table.

What happens next is the only part that counts. November 6, the EP hits. November 9, Dublin starts the run. If Hero is a one-off sugar rush, this dies as a sold-out nostalgia circuit. If those five tracks have the old cocky snap — the Don’t Prey For Me / Young Gods / Jam snap — then every band that overstayed the ‘90s owes Little Angels an apology for quitting too late.
They left you hanging after the Royal Albert Hall. They’re asking you to come home now. That’s a hell of a request.
